i decided to to start a new series dedicated to all things related to the summer. i couldn't think of any more appropriate subject for the first post in series, than lawry's seasoned salt. in a word, lawry's seasoned salt is magic. it can turn a run of the mill chicken wing into something very special.growing up, the spice rack was pretty simple...salt, pepper (not peppercorn), garlic salt, onion powder, cinnamon, paprika (only used to color potato salad, i think), celery salt (we had a lot of salt) and lawry's seasoned salt. i don't think my love affair with seasoned salt began until one day, in preparation for a party, my mom seasoned some wings in lawry's and let it sit overnight in the fridge. (side note: this simple act of marinating, was unheard of back then...my mom was busy.)
the result of this soaked in lawry's flavor was nothing short of extraordinary. from that point on, i requested 'party chicken.' why should marinating be relegated to times when company was coming over?
since then, i've come to know people who carry seasoned salt in their purses and leave it in their desks at work. i haven't quite gone that far, but i understand. i also discovered the joy of seasoned salt on top of finished french fries thanks to the great steak and potato co. it's an absolute summer essential for those of you planning to put anything on the grill.
by the way...all seasoned salt isn't created equal. the store brand doesn't always do the trick. i mean really, considering all of the other places in a budget to save money, is seasoned salt really the place you need to cut corners?
lawry's has been putting it down with the seasoned salt since 1938. though not black owned, lawry's seasoned salt is the teena marie of seasonings. it is full of soul.

Lawry's and some Tabasco sauce or Texas Pete Hot Sauce depending on where you live! Lawry's on popcorn..Yum!
